The ideal candidates for teeth whitening are those patients who have healthy teeth without fillings or restorations and healthy gum tissues.
Sadly, the whitening system treatments do not work on porcelain or most bonding materials including veneers, dentures, crowns, and implants.
Generally, whitening treatments are not harmful to your teeth and are considered safe.
Most patients who undergo teeth whitening treatments will find that a difference of two shades makes them happy, but your teeth can whiten as many as nine shades over the course of teeth whitening treatment.
It varies from patient to patient. The effects of teeth whitening can last up to 2-3 years or as little as 6 months.
Aside from the fact that professional whitening is done in a dental office, in-office whiteners are stronger because they have more peroxide in the solution. They can certainly change the color of your teeth faster than at-home methods.
Let’s face it, all teeth whitening procedures will eventually fade over time. Here’s how you can make your whitened teeth last longer:
✓ Avoid food and drinks that stains
✓ Drink plenty of water
✓ Practice good oral hygiene
✓ Use a straw instead when you drink liquids
✓ Visit your dentist at Andrew J. Holloman, DDS & Associates
Before you get started with your in-office whitening treatment, you will receive a professional dental cleaning to remove plaque and hardened tartar from your teeth. This will get you better results from your whitening treatment if your teeth are as clean as possible beforehand.
Once your teeth are clean, we will place gauze in your mouth to keep it dry. While the whitening gel is harmless to your teeth, it can irritate the sensitive skin of your lips, cheeks, and gums. We also paint your gums with a protective barrier before applying the whitening gel to the front surface of your teeth. A specialized light is used on your teeth to activate the gel so it will provide better, faster results.
It is best NOT to brush your teeth after your teeth whitening treatment. You may brush your teeth at least 6 hours after whitening trays.
When performed by a registered dentist from Andrew J. Holloman, DDS & Associates while using reputable products, teeth whitening will not hurt! Please inform us of any sensitivities and previous whitening products that you may have used at home so we may re-evaluate your dental teeth whitening treatment plan.
